Colts vs. Jaguars: Take advantage of Andrew Luck's rookie mistakes

Take advantage of Andrew Luck's mistakes.

It sounds assumptive and almost misguided one week after the No. 1 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft shredded the Miami Dolphins defense for 433 yards passing, a record for single game passing by rookie, with two touchdowns and no interceptions. But I absolutely do.

In his record-breaking game against the Dolphins, Luck earned a 105.6 passer rating, but it wasn't as mistake free as the statistics would tell you. I couldn't tell you the amount of times that Kevin Harlan and Soloman Wilcots said the words "nearly intercepted" during the Week 9 game. It's not necessarily a huge negative for the rookie quarterback, though.

Luck is very willing to take a shot at the big play and absolutely trusts his arm to fit the ball into a tight window that may not always be the wisest decision. On Sunday it resulted in some big plays for the Colts and as the Dolphins dropped interceptions, including one dropped by Sean Smith with three minutes remaining that could've given Miami the ball in Colts territory down 23-20.

However, none of those opportunities were taken advantage of and the Dolphins ended up on the losing end of a game that was another strong performance by Luck, perhaps his strongest. While the Dolphins defensive backs dropped interceptions, there were certainly plays that could've been made by Colts receivers to further bolster Luck's stats.

As the underdogs on Thursday night, the Jaguars can't afford to do what the Dolphins did in Week 9. They have to grab these chances to flip the field and they have to turn that field position into points. Maybe that's easier said than done.
