Jaguars injury report: Maurice Jones-Drew out, Daryl Smith a possibility

Despite missing nine consecutive games, Maurice Jones-Drew leads the Jaguars with 414 rushing yards.

Despite running back Maurice Jones-Drew saying that he may be able to return for a Week 16 game against the New England Patriots, the Jaguars have ruled him out for Sunday's game.

Jones-Drew hadn't missed more than two games in a season in the first six seasons of his career, but he has missed the last nine games after suffering a foot injury in the first quarter of a Week 7 game against the Oakland Raiders.

Despite missing such an extended period of time, Jones-Drew still leads the Jaguars in rushing yards by more than 100 yards. That isn't likely to be threatened either with Rashad Jennings set to miss another game, although he was cleared Friday to return to practice.

The Jaguars could, though, see the return of Daryl Smith. The linebacker didn't appear on the injury report due to the fact that he is still on injured reserve; however, he made progress and the Jaguars will reportedly make a decision to possibly move him to the active roster on Saturday. The team has an open spot on the roster for him to fill.
