Patriots vs. Jaguars final score: Jacksonville drops home finale, 23-16

The defense allowed just 23 points to the NFL's best offense, but the Jaguars were unable to take advantage of opportunities to score touchdowns.

Despite an impressive effort against the NFL's No. 1 offense and some success from Chad Henne, the Jaguars were unable to earn an upset victory against the New England Patriots, losing 23-16.

It was the Jaguars that got out in front early with a touchdown drive on their opening possession, as Justin Blackmon caught the fourth touchdown of his career. However, the Jacksonville offense was unable to take advantage of several opportunities, settling for four field goal attempts from Josh Scobee instead of finding the end zone again.

While the Jaguars defense was much improved in the loss, forcing two interceptions from Tom Brady, hoping to hold the Patriots to fewer than 16 points is simply unrealistic. In fact, 23 points is a pretty valiant effort from a defense that ranks in the bottom four of the NFL in both points and yards allowed.

The most unfortunate aspect of the game were injuries to significant players on the Jaguars that seemingly have futures with the team. Uche Nwaneri, Paul Posluszny and Cecil Shorts III all suffered injuries that ended their days early.
