Jaguars wide receiver Cecil Shorts III's pursuit of 1,000 yards will officially come up 21 yards short as the team placed him on injured reserve, the team announced Monday. Joining him on the season-ending list are running back Rashad Jennings and linebacker Greg Jones.
To fill the three spots on the roster, the Jaguars promoted wide receiver Jerrell Jackson from the practice squad and claimed offensive lineman Mark Asper and tight end Allen Reisner off waivers.
Shorts caught just two passes in his rookie season, but had a breakout year in 2012, catching 55 passes for 979 yards receiving and seven touchdowns despite not cracking the starting lineup in the first few games of the season.
Jennings's career with the Jaguars may be over after a disappointing 2012 season that coincided with a contract year. Set to become a free agent after the season, Jennings struggled in replacement of Maurice Jones-Drew, accumulating only 283 yards rushing and two touchdowns in 10 games and six starts.
