Jaguars GM search: Jason Licht

The Jacksonville Jaguars will likely be replacing their general manager in the offseason, so it's time to begin looking at some of the candidates for the position, such as Jason Licht. Licht currently serves as the Director of Player Personnel for the Arizona Cardinals and has worked for five different NFL teams in his career and even coached in the NFL. Licht was the runner up for the Chicago Bears general manager position last year, losing out to Phil Emery, and will likely be the target of teams looking for a new general manager in 2013.

Licht spent a season working for the National Football Scouting group, scouting collegiate players, before joining the Carolina Panthers in 1998. Licht worked for the Panthers until 2000, when he took a position with the New England Patriots, eventually working his way up to be the Patriots assistant director of player personnel 2002.

In 2003 Licht joined Tom Heckert with the Philadelphia Eagles as the assistant director of player personnel. Licht was fired by the Eagles in 2008 and joined the Arizona Cardinals. Licht then left the Cardinals to re-join the Patriots as their director of pro personnel but re-joined the Cardinals in 2012.

Licht is the type of candidate who has worked with successful franchises that do a good job of drafting talent and making smart free agency acquisitions and could be a solid choice for the Jaguars general manager position. Shad Khan may lean towards a personnel guy with lots of experience around the league, so keep an eye on Licht.
