Owners Meetings Notebook: Jaguars could look at defensive end in draft | jacksonville.com

PALM BEACH -- Jaguars general manager Gene Smith said he is prepared to look to the draft for a defensive end. Smith said that in response to a question about whether Jaguars defensive end Matt Roth has a chance to return to the Jaguars. Roth is a free agent who signed a one-year deal last season. He was a starter for the Jaguars, but finished the season on injured reserve with a concussion.

The Jaguars have launched a kids club for ages 6-12. A membership kit comes with a personalized certificate, T-shirt, lanyard, cinch pack, pencil case, shoelaces, beach ball and eye black stickers. There’s also a monthly e-newsletter sent to parents, invitations to members-only events and contests, a birthday card from Jaxson de Ville and access to special offers from participating team partners, a news release said.

Gaining ground

Aaron Kampman knows it might be different somewhere else. He knows a lot of teams might have given up on him. The Jaguars’ 11-year veteran defensive end has been around the NFL long enough to know that, and he knows, too, there are plenty who doubt what he can do with the rest of his NFL career. But Kampman said he knows something else more important than those two things.
