The Jacksonville Jaguars placed their franchise tag on kicker Josh Scobee today, and reports surfaced that Scobee and his agent have no plans to sign the franchise tender. The team however still has the goal in mind to sign Scobee to a long term deal. "We are placing the franchise tag on Josh today and it is our goal to reach a long term deal with him," Jaguars General Manager Gene Smith said in a team release. "Josh was drafted by the Jaguars and is someone that I have great respect for as a player and as a person."

The team cans till sign Scobee to a long term deal and remove the franchise tag by the July 15 deadline, but judging by the reaction by the Scobee camp, it sounds like the sides are still far off. There is more than enough time for both sides to continue negotiations and come to an agreement. The leverage a kicker has though in these types of negotiations and holding out is still a big questions. As good as Scobee is, he's a kicker. Kicker's can be found and replaced. While it's tough to find a good kicker, and this team directly struggled with that, there isn't much negotiating power for a kicker who holds out.
