Peyton Manning's departure from the Indianapolis Colts only seems like it stopped the NFL world. And yet, the calendar is still slowly marching toward Tuesday's 4 p.m. start of free agency. Three of the Jaguars four top pending unrestricted free agents are still unaccounted for after the Jaguars placed the franchise tag on kicker Josh Scobee. The Jaguars have yet to re-sign cornerback Rashean Mathis, safety Dwight Lowery or defensive end Jeremy Mincey.

It’s crazy to think Peyton Manning will finish his career without a horseshoe on his helmet. But if it can happen to Johnny Unitas, Brett Favre and Joe Montana, then no iconic quarterback is immune from a heritage team moving on without them. Now the interesting question, at least beyond where a four-time league MVP finishes his career, is this: Should an AFC South division rival already committed to the youngest starting quarterback in the NFL pull out all the stops to sign Manning?
The off-season has been strong thus far for Jaguars season-ticket renewals. As Mackey Weaver sees it, considering the excitement in the wake of recent changes in ownership and head coach, there’s little reason that trend shouldn’t continue in the coming weeks and months.
