There's always a risk in signing a player coming off an ACL tear, but in Mathis's case the Jaguars structured the contract to minimize that risk. Mathis's base salary will be $950,000 and he received a $1 million signing bonus. The other $3.05 million is dependent on playing time, figured by the percentage of snaps in which he plays.
