Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis had one of the worst years of his six seasons in the NFL in 2011 when he was unable to haul in a single touchdown just one year after his 10 touchdowns in 2010 earned him a brand new five-year, $35 million contract.
He has vowed to make sure that the off-field distractions that supposedly sidetracked his 2011 season will be quelled in 2012, but according to Mike Mularkey the tight end is not in the best shape at the beginning of training camp. Speaking to the media after practice, the Jaguars head coach said that Lewis made some nice catches on Saturday, but needs to get in better shape after training in California.
Lewis hasn't hid the fact that he has spent his recent offseasons training in mixed martial arts with Jay Glazer, and many fans blamed the training for his poor 2011. However, his physical shape wasn't the problem in that season.
