Jaguars GM search: David Caldwell, money an issue?

David Caldwell is a finalist for the Jaguars general manager job, but is money the ultimate sticking point?

Mike Ehrmann

The Jacksonville Jaguars are trying to finalize their general manager search and now appear to be in a potential bidding battle with the New York Jets. Atlanta Falcons director of player personnel David Caldwell is reportedly the favorite to land the Jaguars job, but there now appears to be a stumbling block in the form of money.

From Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com:

As we hear it, both teams want Caldwell. But one league source says that Caldwell and the Jaguars had a financial gap that couldn't be bridged, which has prompted Caldwell to explore more seriously the opportunity in New York.

Caldwell is interviewing with the Jets for a second time on Tuesday, after having interviewed with the Jaguars a total of three times. Right off the bat this report reeks of an agent trying to drum up a bigger deal for his client, at least to me. Earlier when the Jaguars general manager search began, it was reported that money wouldn't be a road block for Jaguars owner Shad Khan, but now suddenly when it looks like they've zeroed in on their man it is?

Sure it is. Sure.
