Justin Blackmon dominates Broncos defense

The Jaguars second-year wide receiver dominated the Broncos defense in a 35-19 loss.

The Jacksonville Jaguars lost to the Denver Broncos 35-19 on Sunday, in what was probably the Jaguars best game of the season. A big takeaway from the loss was the performance of second-year wide receiver Justin Blackmon, who in his second game back from suspension dominated the Broncos secondary.

Blackmon finished his day with 14 receptions for 190 yards on 20 targets, following up his five reception 135-yard day against the St. Louis Rams in his first week of action.

Blackmon didn't do anything fancy to garner his yards either, as most of the receptions were on slant or post routes, which play right into Blackmon's strengths as a receiver. He's probably never going to be a guy who beats defenders down the field for a long catch, but he can box out defenders, win the one-on-one matchup and has a great catch radius.

He also knows how to pick up yards after he catches the football. As one of Blackmon's harshest critics pre- and post-draft, I'm more than impressed with the leap he's made from his rookie season to year two. The big question will be what happens when teams start to squat on those routes and bracket him, but there are ways the Jaguars can avoid that if they use him in motion and in the slot.
