Linebacker Martez Wilson was released by the Saints, should the Jaguars put in a waiver claim?

Derick E. Hingle-US PRESSWIRE

The New Orleans Saints have released linebacker Martez Wilson, a former 2011 third round pick on Tuesday. Wilson had only been active for four games for the Saints and wasn't very effective, but he could be someone who might fit on the Jaguars in the LEO rush end role.

Wilson, who measured in at 6'4" and 250 pounds at the NFL Combine and tested out well in most areas, including a 4.49 40-yard dash, and was project by most to be a strong-side linebacker that teams could use in pressure packages. He's played both outside linebacker, inside linebacker, and with his hand on the ground as a pass rusher.

The Jaguars have been abysmal rushing the passer so far in 2013, as players like Jason Babin and Andre Branch have been woeful rushing the passer through the first seven games.

The Jaguars currently hold the No. 1 spot in the waiver order and Wilson's contract is quite small, so if they want him, they'll get him.

The big issue however is the fact that the team is in London, so they'll have to release someone who made the trip overseas if he is indeed claimed.
