A month ago the Jaguars were the worst team in the NFL and maybe of all-time. Now they have won three of their last four games, as a Week 13, 32-28, victory over the Cleveland Browns improved the team's record to 3-9.
After a day that featured two bad drops for Cecil Shorts III, drawing the ire of fans, the third-year receiver came up clutch in the final minutes of the game, hauling in a 20-yard touchdown and keeping both feet inbounds to give the Jaguars a four-point lead with 40 seconds remaining.
It was the culmination of a nine-play, 80-yard drive for the Jaguars led by quarterback Chad Henne. It was one of two long touchdown drives that was key to victory, but the story of the game was truly the offensive mistakes of the Browns that afforded the Jaguars several opportunities to win.
Despite accumulating a franchise-record 261 yards receiving with Josh Gordon and two touchdowns, Browns quarterback Brandon Weeden tossed two interceptions in the final minutes of the first half and fumbled another with just seconds remaining in the second quarter to allow a 13-0 run for the Jaguars.
A snap over the head of Weeden in the fourth quarter also gave the Jaguars their third safety of the year and a one-point lead.
While the win knocks the Jaguars out of position for the first pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, a Week 14 game against the Houston Texans on Thursday night will ultimately be hugely important in the draft position of the two teams.
