Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Cecil Shorts III will once again miss out on his chance to be the first to eclipse the 1,000 yard receiving mark for the Jaguars since Jimmy Smith last did it in 2006 due to injury, as the team has decided to shut him down for the remainder of the 2013 NFL season, planning on placing him on injured reserve later today.
Shorts missed the 27-20 loss to the Buffalo Bills with a groin injury, which will require offseason surgery, and he will now be down for the rest of the season.
This means Shorts will finish 2013 with 66 receptions and 777 receiving yards with three touchdowns, likely leading the team with at least receptions and yardage by seasons end.
Shorts is entering a contract season in 2014, but will be coming off back-to-back promising seasons cut short due to injury. If he can stay healthy in 2014 and continue to be productive, he could earn himself some money with a brand new contract.
