Russell Allen injury: Jaguars LB placed on IR

A concussion has ended the season of fifth-year linebacker Russell Allen.

The 2013 season is over for Russell Allen, as the fifth-year linebacker will be placed on the season-ending injured reserve with a concussion, according to Ryan O'Halloran of the Florida Times-Union.

Allen, 27, started in 13 of the 14 games he played in during the season and was arguably the best linebacker on the team, accumulating 63 tackles, one sack and two fumble recoveries. With one more year left on the three-year, $6 million deal he signed in March 2012, Allen will almost certainly be back in 2014 and will likely contribute again in a starting role for the team.

An undrafted free agent in 2009, Allen played three seasons in a reserve role before stepping in as a full-time starter in 2012. With Allen now on injured reserve, the Jaguars will likely turn to undrafted rookie John Lotulelei to fill in, as he was a starter when Paul Posluszny missed time earlier in the year. Third-year linebacker J.T. Thomas is also likely to have an increased role.

The Jaguars have not yet announced which player will be added to fill the void left by Allen's placement on injured reserve.
