One of the teams in the 2014 Senior Bowl might be coached by the Jacksonville Jaguars coaching staff, Phil Savage said on Thursday. Savage, the executive director of the Senior Bowl, told Alex Marvez of Sirius XM Radio that the Jaguars, Browns and Falcons are the "three strongest candidates" to coach the annual collegiate all-star game.
If the Jaguars are offered the opportunity, there's no reason why they wouldn't accept as it is a great chance for the coaching staff to personally work with the top collegiate seniors that will make up the top of the 2014 NFL Draft class.
For the NFL, it's not difficult to see why the Jaguars are an attractive option, as the targeted teams are typically those near the bottom of the standings while still maintaining franchise stability. There's no doubt that Gus Bradley will remain in place as head coach for the Jaguars in 2014 and he's also the type of infectious personality that will work well with collegiate all-stars and TV cameras.
Jack Del Rio's staff previously coached the Senior Bowl in 2009, the only time in franchise history. The Jaguars subsequently drafted Mike Thomas and Rashad Jennings, each of whom played on the South Team coached by Del Rio.
An announcement of the teams that will coach in the 2014 Senior Bowl is expected next week.
