The Houston Texans have fired head coach Gary Kubiak after the Texans 27-20 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday Night Football, as first reported by Jay Glazer of FOX Sports. The Texans have confirmed the firing with an official release.

"The last straw was losing. We've got a lot more talent than Jacksonville, but they played better and smarter," Texans owner Bob McNair said at the press conference announcing Kubiak's firing.

The Texans were tabbed by many as a favorite to not only win the AFC South, but make the Super Bowl in 2013. After starting out the season 2-0 they have gone on to lose 11 straight games, including being swept by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Kubiak finished his tenure with the Texans with a 61-64 record with only three winning seasons, making the playoffs twice.

Wade Phillips will be the interim head coach through the end of the season.
