Jaguars QB competition: 'Without a doubt,' there will be one says Gus Bradley

Phil Sears-US PRESSWIRE

The Jacksonville Jaguars have a lot of rebuilding to do on their roster heading into 2013 and there's likely going to be shake ups at certain positions. New head coach Gus Bradley believes that competition is going to be key to deciding a lot of positions and virtually all the starting jobs are up for grabs, even at the quarterback position.

The first part of Bradley's job is evaluating the current roster, but he has a different approach than most coaches seem to.

"I've heard some very positive comments about some of our guys, with Blaine (Gabbert) especially," Bradley told Sports Final Radio on 1010XL Tuesday morning. "Our quarterbacks coach Frank Scelfo and Jedd (Fisch), we believe there are some things and great traits that we can work with."

All jokes aside, Gabbert does have a lot of tools that teams seem to look for that the quarterback position, so it's going to be how this new staff builds and offense around the quarterback, fitting it to what Gabbert does well.

"When you come in as a new staff an evaluate, one of the things I challenge our staff with is it's really easy to come in and look at our players and say 'OK Gus, here's what we think they do bad.' That's easy," Bradley said in the interview. "Everybody can do that. Instead we took the approach where we said 'OK, what are some good things that they're doing, and those good things we can build on.' "

That being said, the Jaguars starting quarterback may or may not already be on the roster. The position is certainly up for grabs.

"Without a doubt," Bradley told Sports Final Radio about a quarterback competition. "There's going to be competition at every spot on our roster. Our whole philosophy in this organization is to compete and competition, so we'll follow through with that."
