NFL free agency: Terrance Knighton, Jaguars have discussed future

The Jacksonville Jaguars have a couple of decisions to make on their own free agents, including defensive tackle Terrance Knighton, who's coming off one of the worst seasons of his NFL career. The 2013 season was supposed to be a big contract year for Knighton, but he came out flat and wound up losing his starting job in Week 4 of the season.

"Terrence is a good kid, and he's talented," Jaguars general manager David Caldwell told Ryan O'Halloran of The Florida Times-Union. "I think we're still in the process with Gus to see where he fits. We've talked to his representation. We'll see where we are in a month or so."

The biggest thing with Knighton is you don't know exactly what you're going to get, but he does seem like a fit in Gus Bradley's hybrid defensive scheme. Typically the scheme calls for a nosetackle, or one-technique, especially with Bradley mentioning he would like to run some 3-4 elements and eventually work towards a 3-4 base defense. Knighton's best position is at the nose spot, but he's coming off a rather poor season where he lost his starting job and in the past had issues with his weight and tailing off to end seasons.

Knighton could be a candidate to test the free agent waters and come back to the Jaguars on a lower-tier deal, but I wouldn't be shocked at all to see him sign with another team.
