The Jacksonville Jaguars will not be the team trading for Alex Smith, general manager David Caldwell told Ryan O'Halloran of The Florida Times-Union on Sunday afternoon.

There was a report that the San Francisco 49ers had a deal in place already to trade quarterback Alex Smith, leading speculation to run wild on which team the deal was with, as both the Jaguars and Chiefs had been mentioned in the past.
The Jaguars have stressed building their team through the draft and building a young roster, which generally requires a team to not give up draft picks on mid-level quarterbacks in trades. There's no guarantee Smith would have even been an upgrade on the Jaguars, given the current state of the roster. Caldwell has also been adamant that he doesn't want stop-gap solutions right now on his roster.
