Jaguars rumors: Drew Stanton could get a look in free agency

Andy Lyons

The Jacksonville Jaguars don't plan to be active early in the 2013 NFL free agency period, but they will be looking to add competition to the quarterback position in one form or another. A possible player they could add in free agency at the position is Drew Stanton, Jason LaCanfora of CBS Sports speculates.

"Drew Stanton will likely land in either Jacksonville, Tampa or Arizona, also suitors for Cassel," LaCanfora writes.

Stanton, 28, was a second round pick of the Detroit Lions in the 2007 NFL Draft, but could never seem to claim the starting position dealing with injuries early in his career. The Lions eventually drafted Matt Stafford in the first round, signaling that Stanton was bound to be a backup on the Lions.

Stanton signed with the New York Jets in free agency in 2012, but was traded shortly after the team traded for Tim Tebow. The Indianapolis Colts gave up a seventh round pick for Stanton prior to drafting Andrew Luck with the first overall pick.

Stanton has been inactive the past two seasons.
