2013 NFL Mock Draft: Geno Smith to the Jaguars

Rob Carr

The Jacksonville Jaguars sent a large group to the West Virginia Pro Day to watch Geno Smith do his throwing session. They also met with him for 90 minutes afterwards, breaking down film and meeting with him. The current staff has no ties to the 23-year old Blaine Gabbert who was picked in the Top 10 in 2011, so it's possible the new staff might just move on with their own guy.

Even Peter King of Sports Illustrated seems to think the Jaguars interest in Geno Smith is genuine.

In their latest NFL Mock Draft, Mocking The Draft thinks that could be the case:

Pick Player Position Height Weight Class
2. Jacksonville Jaguars
Geno Smith, West Virginia QB 6'2 3/8 218 Sr.

At this point, we know the Jaguars are interested in Geno Smith. The question is how interested. While the team sent a good portion of its front office to the West Virginia pro day to scout the quarterback, that doesn't necessarily mean general manager David Caldwell is sold on him. At this point, given the team's big need at quarterback and the fact that Smith is the best prospect at the position, the Jaguars will probably pull the trigger. But we don't know Caldwell's tendencies, so he could have all of us thrown for a loop.
