2013 NFL Draft: Jaguars will not select a QB with No. 33 pick, according to report

Blaine Gabbert will be the most likely starter for the Jaguars in 2013.

After shoring up the offensive line with the selection of a right tackle with the second overall pick, the table is set for Blaine Gabbert to start again in 2013 and he might be able to do so without much of a difficult competition, as Mark Long of the Associated Press reports the Jaguars have zero intention to take a quarterback with the first pick of the second round.

It was previously speculated that the Jaguars were targeting either USC quarterback Matt Barkley or Syracuse quarterback Ryan Nassib with the top pick of the second round if they were to go unselected in the first 32 picks, but that appears to not be the case.

Long later tweeted that the Jaguars may select a quarterback in the third round if one they truly covet is available, but their goal was to select players that would be definitive starters and allow Gabbert and Chad Henne to compete against better protection.

If the Jaguars intend to draft a player that will be a definitive starter, it would seem that the most likely second round selection would instead be a defensive back as the Jaguars have significant holes at cornerback and strong safety.
