The Jacksonville Jaguars have waived defensive end Austen Lane and cornerback Trey Wilson, the team announced on Thursday morning. Lane was a fifth-round pick of the Jaguars in the 2010 NFL Draft and Wilson was a rookie undrafted free agent.
The moves aren't all that shocking, as Lane was going to have to battle to make the roster and fit into the new defensive scheme. A fan favorite entering his rookie season, Lane showed some promise early but injuries to his shoulder and ankle cut his seasons short the past two years.
Wilson's release is a little surprising considering he's a rookie and many thought he had a shot to make the roster as a nickel corner.
The Jaguars roster now sits at 88 players and only 12 Gene Smith draft picks remain on the roster.
