Jordan Rodgers released by Jaguars

USA TODAY Sports

The Jacksonville Jaguars appeared they would be heading into training camp with five quarterbacks on the roster. That was until the team announced they were releasing rookie quarterback Jordan Rodgers on Monday afternoon.

Rodgers was signed by the Jaguars as an undrafted rookie free agent, along with Matt Scott, but the addition of Mike Kafka and the groin injury Rodgers suffered in rookie mini camp made him expendable.

Rodgers was a long shot to make the roster regardless and likely was going to be battling for a spot on the practice squad with Matt Scott. Rodgers started two seasons at Vanderbilt before going undrafted in April.
