Jacksonville Jaguars second-round pick Jonathan Cyprien has missed the beginning of training camp with a hamstring injury he's classified as just a tweak. Many would think there would be concern about the rookie who's slated to start missing time in the new defense, but his teammates aren't worried he'll be too far behind.
"He's been very active as far as being on the sideline in practice and knowing the calls and understanding how he fits within the defense," veteran safety Dwight Lowery told Ryan O'Halloran of The Florida Times-Union. "The big thing for him will be getting those live reps. I think he knows what to do from an X-and-O standpoint; it's just a different thing when you're actually in there and doing it."
Cyprien was making plays during the team's rookie minicamp and OTA practices in the past when he was healthy, so getting back to practice should help him pick up the pace. The team plans to re-evaluate Cyprien's injury on Tuesday, the off day, with the hopes he can return off the PUP list relatively soon.
Note: Whenever Cyprien is cleared and removed from the PUP list, he cannot practice in pads for three full days due to the NFL CBA.
