Jaguars splitting reps between Chad Henne, Blaine Gabbert

The Jaguars appear to be splitting reps with the first team with Chad Henne and Blaine Gabbert leading up to the first preseason game.

The Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback competition appears to be dead even, with neither Chad Henne or Blaine Gabbert taking control through the offseason and nearly two weeks of training camp. The Jaguars have their first preseason game against the Miami Dolphins on Friday, but have yet to name a starter and have had Gabbert and Henne splitting reps with the first team.

"It’s just like we talked about that last night, we went with Henne and tomorrow you’ll see them split and they’ll each get opportunities with the ones," Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley said after practice on Tuesday, in response to Chad Henne taking the majority of the reps with the first team.

"As far as rotations with the players in the game we haven’t even talked about that," Bradley said. "Like I said we’ll talk more tomorrow night. We haven’t even talked to our players about it, I don’t want to go there, I just want to focus on us."

On Monday Gabbert took the majority of the reps with the first team and on Wednesday it's expected they'll both split the reps and the team will decide who will start the first preseason game possibly on Thursday.

There is some thought the team might play just two quarterbacks on Friday, with each getting a half, but Bradley wasn't ready to commit to anything just yet.

"Yeah we should use more than two; hopefully everybody gets a chance to play," Bradley said.

Who starts on Friday night isn't really going to signal who's going to start the regular season, as I would expect both Henne and Gabbert to start a preseason game. I also expect Gabbert to be the starter on Friday, playing roughly a half of football.
