With the first Jacksonville Jaguars preseason game against the Miami Dolphins only a few days away, it's time to start paying attention to some of the little things in order to determine the Jaguars 53-man roster. Notice I didn't say final 53 because I believe there will be 3-4 players added from other teams after the final cuts on August 31st.
Pay attention to the first team four core special teams. Punt, punt return, kick-off and kick-off return. The starters on those units as the Jaguars progress through the pre-season will have a really good chance of making the team even if they are buried on the depth chart.
For example: I like what I have seen from Jonathan Grimes, Antwon Blake, LaRoy Reynolds, Steve Terrell, Ray Polk, Allen Reisner and Isaiah Stanback.
Just know this, everything can get turned upside down very quickly after the Miami game based off of two things, performance and injury. As an example, Chris Banjo was a special teams starter during OTA's and didn't even make it to the first day of camp.
Every team is looking for what they call a "four core" guy. Some teams will carry up to four to five core-four special teams players although that trend is slowly moving towards two to three players.
