The Jacksonville Jaguars take on the Miami Dolphins on Friday evening to open the 2013 preseason. We know a lot about the Jaguars, but what about the Dolphins? I got a hold of Kevin Nogle over at The Phinsider to ask him some questions about the Dolphins, and what we can look for.
Like the Jaguars, every team has some camp All-Stars and undrafted players who make noise in training camp. Kevin gives us some guys to watch for on Friday night.
Who are some bubble players for the Dolphins to watch on Friday?
There are a few who were impressive during the Hall of Fame Game that will be looking to back up that performance. The first is wide receiver Chad Bumphis (#16), an undrafted free agent who is riding a hot streak right now. He led the team with five receptions for 85 yards on Sunday, and is making a stong case to be on the 53 man roster. Other wide receivers who will be looking to impress are Jeff Fuller (#14) and Kennan Davis (#3).
A couple of reserves who should safely be on the roster, but could be guys to watch Friday night are defensive end Derrick Shelby (#79) and cornerback Will Davis (#29). Shelby had two sacks in the HOF Game and is showing why people were excited about him last year. He's not going to be a starter on a team with Cameron Wake, Olivier Vernon, and Dion Jordan, but he could be a situational player this year, with the skills to get after opposing quarterbacks. Davis, meanwhile, was Miami's second third round pick, and is making a case that he should be among the top cornerbacks. He peaks into the backfield a lot, so he can be beat, or get mixed up on his coverage, leading to bad defensive pass interference calls, but it also results in him being in the right position to come away with a turnover. Over the past five practices, Davis has eight interceptions. Keep an eye on him during Friday's game.
