The Jacksonville Jaguars have "zero interest" in pursuing a trade that would land them recently benched Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman, according to Mark Long of the Associated Press.
While the Jaguars have been plagued by poor quarterback play, it shouldn't come as a surprise that the Jaguars are uninterested in Freeman, as was explained by Alfie Crow earlier on Wednesday. In the beginning stages of a rebuild, the Jaguars are not going to be interested in trading away draft picks for players that aren't young, long-term fixtures to build the franchise around.
A first-round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, Freeman took over as the full-time starter for the Buccaneers in 2010 and led the team to a 10-6 record with 25 touchdowns and six interceptions. Since then, he has regressed as a player and threw 39 interceptions in the following two seasons.
In three starts for the Buccaneers in 2013, Freeman completed 45.7 percent of his passes with two touchdowns and three interceptions. Also, hindering any idea of a trade is the five-year, $25 million contract he signed as a rookie that is set to expire after the season.
