Smith collected a sack, forced fumble, interception, and two passes defensed in the club’s win over the Cleveland Browns. Smith, who has two career sacks, registered a sack that forced fumble of Brian Hoyer in the third quarter and the ball was recovered by linebacker Paul Posluszny.
With 5:21 remaining in the game, Smith also intercepted Hoyer and returned it 15 yards to set up a touchdown by fellow rookie running back Storm Johnson.
Smith is the first AFC rookie to win a player of the week award in 2014 and the second overall, with Chicago Bears cornerback Kyle Fuller winning in Week 2. The rookie linebacker is also up for the Pepsi Rookie of the Week honors. Vote for him here!
