Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel has been campaigning to be the first pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, and the 2012 Heisman Trophy winner believes if the Houston Texans don't select him at No. 1, it will be the Jaguars taking him at No. 3.
Last week, Manziel spoke to reporters from the San Diego Union-Tribune and the Houston Chronicle and it sounds as though he's using the AFC South as leverage to make himself the top pick, warning the Texans of the scenario that would happen if they pass on him:
"It would be the worst decision they've ever made," he said. "I'd be in the same division playing against them twice a year. Sorry, but you just turned that chip on my shoulder from a Frito into a Dorito."
The Texans lost 14 consecutive games during the 2013 season with heavy struggles at the quarterback position from Matt Schaub, Case Keenum and T.J. Yates. While there is little doubt that the Texans have a need at the position, it's possible they could select South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney or a different quarterback such as UCF's Blake Bortles or Louisville's Teddy Bridgewater.
Prior to foregoing his junior and senior seasons, Manziel finished his sophomore year at Texas A&M with 4,114 yards passing, 37 touchdowns and 13 interceptions, in addition to 759 yards rushing and nine touchdowns on the ground.
