In his second mock draft for the 2014 NFL Draft, ESPN draft analyst Todd McShay saw things a little bit differently than his colleague Mel Kiper and slated the Jaguars to take the first quarterback off the board, Louisville's Teddy Bridgewater.
While Kiper said in a conference call on Thursday that Johnny Manziel of Texas A&M is considered the "consensus No. 1 quarterback" around the NFL, McShay is sticking with Bridgewater as the first passer to come off the board. He defended as much in his explanation for the Jaguars pick:
"This draft feels like the right time for the Jaguars to get their franchise quarterback, and in this scenario they'd have their pick of every QB on the board. Bridgewater continues to be the No. 1 quarterback in our rankings, because while there are some concerns about his long-term durability in the NFL due to his lean frame, he is the most naturally accurate passer in this class with great anticipation, toughness and command of the offense."
In Kiper's mock draft, the Jaguars are slated to take South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney rather than a quarterback. However, in McShay's mock, Clowney is slated to be the first overall selection in the draft by the Houston Texans, leaving the entire quarterback class to the Jaguars' choosing with the third pick.
Bridgewater is the player slated to be picked by the Jaguars in about a third of the mock drafts surveyed in the Big Cat Country mock draft database.
