The theme for NFL mock drafts this year appears to be the Jacksonville Jaguars ending up with a quarterback at the No. 3 overall pick, be it Louisville's Teddy Bridgewater or Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel. In their latest collaborative Mock Draft, Dan Kadar and Matthew Fairburn of SB Nation settle on the Jaguars ending up with Bridgewater at the No. 3 overall pick, noting he'd be a nice fit in Jedd Fisch's offense.
3. Jacksonville Jaguars - Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Louisville
The Jaguars get lucky here, as Teddy Bridgewater, our top-ranked quarterback, falls to them at No. 3. He reads defenses very well, both pre- and post-snap, and has the pocket presence and accuracy to excel in Jedd Fisch's offense. This pick seems like a no-brainer, but the draft is still a month away.
The move makes sense as the Jaguars need a quarterback and many feel that Bridgewater is the most "pro ready" quarterback in the draft. The feeling locally with those who cover the team seems to be that Dave Caldwell will not pick a quarterback at No. 3 overall, however.
Most feel the team will select a pass rusher with the pick to add some youth in that area or grab the big play threat of Sammy Watkins to fill the void that is now on the roster with Justin Blackmon's off field issues.
In the second round of their mock draft the Jaguars get a bit of a gift with a local player falling to them, which would seem to be a big upgrade to their nosetackle position.
39. Jacksonville Jaguars - Louis Nix III, DT, Notre Dame
The Jaguars added a ton of depth on the defensive line but could still use a one-technique defensive tackle. If Louis Nix III is available at this spot, Jacksonville would have a hard time passing on him.
Nix was a disruptive force on the Notre Dame defensive line in 2012, but his play fell off in 2013 as he was dealing with a knee injury that he's since had surgery on. Nix has dropped some weight this offseason in preparing for the NFL and if he ends up falling to the Jaguars in round 2, as Kadar and Fairburn note, he'd be tough for the team to pass on.
