There wasn't much difference between the numbers of Buffalo's Khalil Mack and UCLA's Anthony Barr at the 2014 NFL Combine, but Mack may have separated himself from the rest of the defensive prospects on Tuesday at the Buffalo Pro Day. While he's still going to be behind consensus top defender, Jadeveon Clowney of South Carolina for most, Mack shaved a tenth of a second off his 40-yard dash.
After running the 40-yard dash in 4.65 seconds, according to the electronic timer at the Combine, Mack posted a time between 4.53-4.55 seconds, according to the scouts in attendance. Among those scouts was one representative from the Jaguars, according to SB Nation's Buffalo Bulls site, UB Bull Run, as well as the general managers of the Buffalo Bills and Oakland Raiders.
Mack, who received 10 percent of the projections in the latest BCC Mock Draft Database, "blew people away with his pass rushing ability," according to NFL.com's Gil Brandt.
The other notable pro day on Tuesday was Auburn's, where defensive end Dee Ford worked out for the first time after he was scratched from the Combine. While offensive tackle Greg Robinson and running back Tre Mason sat on their Combine performances, Ford performed in front of a huge group of scouts which included a Jaguars scout.
Ford did very well in all categories, racking 29 reps in the bench press, a 10'4" broad jump and a 4.55-4.59 40-yard dash time.
