Ka'Deem Carey 2014 NFL Draft Profile

New, comments

Ka'Deem Carey blew up the 2013 season with great production, but how does he translate to the next level? I'm skeptical...

Where Ka'Deem Carey Wins

Ka'Deem Carey is one of the hardest running backs you'll find in this class. He runs with aggression and does not shy away from contact. He always keeps his feet moving on contact and makes sure to fall forward to fight for every yard he can.

He possesses very good vision and instincts as well, both at the line of scrimmage and in space. He sets up defenders and works off his blocks well, and can get holes with decisiveness and timing, while still being patient and calculated. He knows how to make himself skinny through the hole to avoid would be tacklers, and appears to always be aware of his surroundings and where defenders are.

Where Ka'Deem Carey Needs To Improve

Carey simply does not have one physical trait he can hang his hat on. He's a tough runner, but he does not possess much functional strength and can be taken down by arm tackles and first contact too often. He has good vision, but his acceleration and overall foot speed is average, at best. In a league where everybody is physically dominant, Carey appears to be just average.

Carey also will not contribute much on third down. He will not do much as a receiver and has issues with both technique and awareness in pass protection. He will need to work on his run style as well, as he runs practically standing up, ruining any power he may have.

Overall Impression

Carey is a player who got by in college by being a smart runner and a hard worker, and being on a equal level physically with many of his opponents. I do not believe this will be the case in the NFL and see him having a pretty hard time translating his average abilities.
