NFL Draft results: Allen Robinson picked by Jaguars

With the No. 61 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars have picked Penn State wide receiver Allen Robinson. The Jaguars moved up from the No. 70 overall selection after a trade with the San Francisco 49ers that moved them back into the second round, giving up pick No. 150 to move up.

The Jaguars addressed wide receiver in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft with Justin Blackmon, but multiple violations of the NFL's substance abuse policy has the former Oklahoma State wide out indefinitely suspended, and the Jaguars don't expect to see that suspension end in time for him to play in 2014.

Even if Blackmon did return to the lineup, there isn't a tremendous amount of depth at receiver after Shorts, as Ace Sanders and Mike Brown are the other players that saw significant time at the position in 2013. They addressed that need with the selection of Marqise Lee at the top of the second round, but chose to do so again with Robinson.

Even with the addition of Lee, it was also a receiving corps that lacked height, as Tandon Doss and Stephen Williams are the only receivers currently under contract with the Jaguars that are listed as taller than 6'0.

At 6'3, 220 pounds, Robinson offers that type of size and plenty of athleticism, as he posted a 42-inch vertical jump at the Penn State Pro Day. He did raise eyebrows at the Combine though, were he posted an underwhelming 4.57 40-yard dash, which he improved by a tenth of a second at his pro day. Regardless, he should be an immediate starter in the Jacksonville offense.
