SB Nation 2014 NFL Draft

With the No. 39 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars have picked USC wide receiver Marqise Lee. Without many playmakers at the top of the depth chart at receiver, Lee will likely be paired with Cecil Shorts III in the starting lineup immediately.

The Jaguars addressed wide receiver in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft with Justin Blackmon, but multiple violations of the NFL's substance abuse policy has the former Oklahoma State wide out indefinitely suspended, and the Jaguars don't expect to see that suspension end in time for him to play in 2014.

Even if Blackmon did return to the lineup, there isn't a tremendous amount of depth at receiver after Shorts, as Ace Sanders and Mike Brown are the other players that saw significant time at the position in 2013. It was also a receiving corps that lacked height, as Tandon Doss and Stephen Williams are the only receivers currently under contract with the Jaguars that are listed as taller than 6'0.

At 6'0, 192 pounds, Lee won't buck that trend, but offers the Jaguars a home run threat every time he touches the ball. While he only posted a 4.43 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, his explosive ability was evident with the Trojans. If he can avoid injury and improve his catching technique which often led to drops, he should provide the Jaguars with a player who can start Week 1 and make an immediate impact.
