Jacksonville Jaguars veteran wide receiver Cecil Shorts III will play on Friday against the Detroit Lions in the team's all-important third preseason game, head coach Gus Bradley announced on Wednesday after practice.
Jaguars coach Gus Bradley says WR Cecil Shorts III will play about 15 plays at Lions

Shorts had been out nearly all of training camp and preseason until he got back to practice this week, dealing with a calf injury. It wasn't a massive deal that Shorts was out during training camp, but the team also suffered a rash of injuries at the position which lead to second-round pick Marqise Lee and undrafted free agent rookie Allen Hurns as the team's top options to start games.
With Shorts back on the field, even for 15 plays or so against the Lions on Friday, it will be a good test to see if he's ready for Week 1 of the regular season. Thankfully that is still two weeks away, so the team has plenty of time to work their leading wide receiver back into the lineup.
