Jaguars vs. Lions final score: Detroit beats Jacksonville 13-12

The Jaguars lost the game to the Lions, but the real story was Blake Bortles out playing Chad Henne once again.

Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports

The Jacksonville Jaguars lost to the Detroit Lions in the third preseason game 13-12, bringing the Jaguars preseason record to 1-2 so far. The team will finish out the preseason at home against the Atlanta Falcons next Thursday at EverBank Field.

Chad Henne had an uninspiring performance completing just nine of his 14 passes for 70 yards, checking the ball down and missing on quite a few easy throws. In Henne's defense to a degree, he was hit multiple times and sacked twice, but a few of those were also on him. Henne's performance dumped gasoline on the quarterback controversy that supposedly doesn't exist.

Blake Bortles came into the game with less than two minutes remaining in the second half and immediately began marching the football down the field. On his second pass he hit rookie receiver Allen Hurns deep down the sideline, then a few plays later hit tight end Marcedes Lewis deep in the middle of the field.

Bortles was nearly picked on a bad throw, but he marched the team down for a field goal as time expired. He came back out in the second half and continued to make plenty of wow throws down the field.

Like this one:

He ended the night completing 10 of his 16 passes for 156 yards and a touchdown. So far in the preseason through three games, Bortles is 28-of-44, 435 yards, 1 TD, 103.9 rating.

The other star of the night aside from Bortles was undrafted rookie Allen Hurns, who's looked like the team's best wide receiver so far. He finished the night with 7 receptions for 113 yards and a touchdown. He's the teams leading receiver in both receptions and yards through three games and should now be a lock for the roster.

The Jaguars defense was concerning a little bit, giving up a few big plays on some mistakes, but overall it was another good performance overall. The defense was gashed in the run game on a few plays, especially on the 80+ yard touchdown run by Reggie Bush which saw Johnathan Cyprien miss his assignment and Telvin Smith get sucked inside, leaving Bush a massive running lane towards the endzone.
