The Jacksonville Jaguars lost in the preseason finale to the Atlanta Falcons by a score of 24-14 at EverBank Field.
The first quarter was where people got their money's worth. In a surprise switch, head coach Gus Bradley started rookie Blake Bortles at quarterback and let incumbent starter Chad Henne sit on the bench. The result?
For those keeping track at home, that's Blake Bortles with the pump fake, looking off a safety, and then coming back to hit fellow rookie receiver Marqise Lee for a 57-yard touchdown. The touchdown came just eight seconds into the second quarter and Bradley immediately took Bortles out of the game.
That's when the rout was on.
Backup quarterback T.J. Yates threw two touchdowns in the next eight minutes and the Falcons never looked back.
Jacksonville mounted a small comeback, with a nice 31-yard punt return by Ace Sanders in the second half that set the Jaguars up in the red zone. But an errant snap by Mike Brewster forced backup kicker Kasey Redfern to attempt (and miss) a 42-yard field goal.
Third- and fourth-string quarterbacks weren't any help either, dinking and dunking their way to a combined 20-for-33 for 181 yards, zero touchdowns, and several missed third-down conversion opportunities.
Jordan Todman took full advantage of Storm Johnson's lack of reps, finishing the game with 11 rushes, 37 yards and a late touchdown, but it wasn't enough to salvage the game.
