The Jacksonville Jaguars play their first preseason game of the season on Friday at EverBank Field against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. There are a few story lines developing so far in the first two weeks of camp and we should learn quite a bit more about them come Friday evening.
How will the offensive line fare?
One of the single biggest story lines for the Jaguars heading into the preseason is the offensive line. How will the center and right guard positions shake out, who will start and will it be a liability during games? The Jaguars struggled to run the football and well... do anything offensively last season because the offensive line wasn't that good. They've upgraded it some this offseason and get Luke Joeckel back, but Mike Brewster and a rookie guard are still big question marks.
Who's going to catch passes?
The Jaguars have had a rash of injuries at the wide receiver position. The team will be without Allen Robinson, Cecil Shorts III, Tandon Doss and Mike Brown just picked up a hamstring injury in practice on Wednesday. This means rookies Allen Hurns and Marqise Lee will likely be taking a heavy amount of snaps. If Brown is out for Friday, the Jaguars will have just six available wide receivers.
Where is the pass rush?
The Jaguars pass rush has looked good so far in camp, mostly in one-on-one drills where they should look good. The big question is how will they look when it's live game action going against another team? I wouldn't imagine someone like Chris Clemons plays much, if at all, so it will be a good showcase for guys like Andre Branch, Ryan Davis, Chris Smith and Gerald Rivers.
How does Bortles look in live action?
The big one. Blake Bortles playing actual real live football in a Jaguars uniform. He looked good against semi-live bullets in the team's scrimmage on Saturday but now he will be playing against players that are trying to and can knock him on his ass. He will likely be playing with some of the first team offensive line as the interior looks to get worked out, but the receiving corps will be a bit limited. It will be a decent gauge of where he's at in his development.
