Van Pelt was drafted in the eighth round of the 1993 NFL Draft and ended up spending over a decade in the NFL, primarily as a backup quarterback with the Buffalo Bills. He got into coaching in the old NFL Europe before taking a job as an offensive assistant with the Buffalo Bills.
Van Pelt has spent the last two seasons with the Green Bay Packers, first as a running backs coach and then as the quarterbacks coach this past season. As La Canfora mentions, Van Pelt seemed to be a hot name on the market as multiple teams were blocked from interviewing him.
