At his end-of-the-season press conference, Jacksonville Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell said the team "has more pressing needs" than a number one running back.
But that hasn't stopped the Jaguars from being linked with one of the best in the 2015 NFL Draft.
In his latest two-round mock draft, Mocking The Draft has predicted the Jaguars will upgrade both sides of the ball with their first two picks, getting Nebraska defensive end Randy Gregory with No. 3 overall pick and Georgia running back Todd Gurley with the No. 36 overall pick.
3. Jacksonville Jaguars: Randy Gregory, DE/OLB, Nebraska
This pick is also the same as the previous week. The talent and need fit is just too strong. Gregory had some down moments this season. Every player does. But watch how teams ran their offenses away from Gregory or used multiple blockers on him. That impact isn't always measured in the box score.
I get the Gregory pick. Even in the face of Sen'Derrick Marks' ACL injury, the team has a venerable interior defensive line, and even with the sixth-most sacks in the league last year, the team needs to pressure opposing quarterbacks on a consistent basis.
But Gurley with a high second-round pick? He's coming off an ACL injury himself and I'm not so sure we've seen Denard Robinson's ceiling yet. Why take such a risk on a guy with the No. 36 overall pick?
