Jaguars will be patient in offensive coordinator search

Fans want someone hired now, but the Jaguars are going to take their time and be patient searching for an offensive coordinator.

With the Jacksonville Jaguars in the middle of searching for a new offensive coordinator, fans want a hire as soon as possible so things can get going. Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell however, said the team is in no rush to sign a coordinator while he was filling in on The Gus Bradley Show with Jeff Lageman on 1010XL.

"Generally you're interviewing good coaches, but we want the best. Shad Khan said 'Well, we have an opening so lets to whatever we can to find the best coach to come in here and take us to the next level,'" Caldwell said on Thursday evening.

"We're going to take our time, we're going to be patient," Caldwell continued.

Some of that is on purpose and some of it is being limited by the rules surrounding coaches on playoff teams. Not only do the Jaguars need to request permission to interview coaches, but they are also limited by if a team is in the playoffs or not.

With teams in the playoffs, you have to wait until teams are eliminated or you have to wait for specific windows to interview people from their coaching staff so it's entirely possible the Jaguars have a target in mind and are just waiting until it's possible to interview them.

Though, keep in mind there are currently six head coach vacancies in the NFL and four three offensive coordinator positions open (Tampa hired Dirk Koetter). So that's potentially seven offensive coordinator positions that need to be filled.
