The Jacksonville Jaguars don't appear as if they're going to franchise tag any of their free agents, nor should they, but if they wanted to that window opens up on Monday, Feb. 16th. Teams can begin franchise tagging players today, all the way through March 2nd.
The franchise tag could remove a few big names from the free agency pool in the coming weeks, which was expected. Guys like Justin Houston, Devin McCourty and Dez Bryant could quickly be off the market if their teams want to commit a large chunk of guaranteed money to those players. The deadline to work out a long term deal after being tagged, which usually dumps down that single season cap hit, is July 15.
A lot of the bigger names, like the ones listed above, weren't really expected to actually hit the open market on March 11 when free agency opens.
The Jaguars are expected to be active and big spenders, but some of the big names likely don't even hit free agency.
