Todd McShay mock draft: Jaguars to select Dante Fowler at No. 3

More and more national pundits are predicting the Jaguars select Dante Fowler out of Florida with their first-round draft pick.

Marvin Gentry-USA TODAY Sports

The Jacksonville Jaguars are looking more and more likely to select Florida defensive end Dante Fowler with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. That is, if the national draft experts have their way.

First, it was the occasional dark-horse pick when someone didn't want to repeat Leonard Williams and Randy Gregory ad nauseum.

Then CBS Sports said it.

Later, NFL.com predicted it.

Now ESPN's Todd McShay is putting his stamp on it, and all that's left is for Mel Kiper, Jr. to join in and we'll have the planets aligned.

3. Jacksonville Jaguars: Florida DE Dante Fowler

Analysis: If there was a tackle worth drafting here, I'd probably have the Jags take one, since they are looking for competition along the entire offensive line. But they also need a young pass-rusher, and Fowler would be a good fit as a 4-3 defensive end next to D-tackles Roy Miller and Sen'Derrick Marks. Fowler isn't as athletic as Nebrask's Randy Gregory -- the guy I had Jacksonville taking previously -- but he's a more complete player who can not only rush the passer but also set the edge against the run. That's the difference between him and Gregory, who is long and explosive but just 236 pounds. He isn't a fit for Jacksonville as a 4-3 end.

It's not because I don't think Fowler's a first-round talent. (He is.) I just don't see the Tennessee Titans bypassing either Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota and selecting Leonard Williams. Winston and Mariota will be gone in the first two picks and the Jaguars will grab the most versatile, athletic defensive lineman in the NFL Draft.

For the rest of the AFC South, McShay has the Houston Texans drafting Stanford offensive tackle Andrus Peat and the Indianapolis Colts drafting LSU offensive tackle La'el Collins.
