The Jacksonville Jaguars have selected Louisville safety James Sample in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL Draft. Sample, who played strong safety for the Cardinals in college, will likely compete for the free safety position, but could be a comp-safety player on the Jaguars roster.
At 6'2" and 210 pounds with 32" arms, Sample has excellent size for the safety position and ran well at the NFL Combine with a 4.56 40-yard dash. As mentioned, Sample played more of the box safety role at Louisville, but a lot of experts believe that he can play the free spot.
Sample has just one year starting experience at Louisville because he was a JUCO transfer, so there are still some questions about his game at a higher level. Sample will probably play special teams early on and will compete for playing time with Josh Evans and Sergio Brown at the free safety position.
