Jaguars release WR/PR Ace Sanders

The Jaguars announced they've released third-year wide receiver/punt returner Ace Sanders.

Phil Sears-USA TODAY Sports

The Jacksonville Jaguars have released wide receiver/punt returner Ace Sanders.

After a rookie season where Sanders performed above expectation and hauled in 51 catches for 484 yards and one touchdown, he suffered a sophomore slump with only six catches for 55 yards and only 7.09 yards per punt return.

Sanders' rocky 2014 season began with a four-game suspension. It was never disclosed what the suspension was for, but it was likely drug-related and a violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy.

While Sanders participated in training camp, not being able to play in games hampered his development.

With the Jaguars drafting Rashad Greene this year, Sanders was expendable.

A fourth-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, Sanders finishes his career in Jacksonville with 57 receptions, 539 yards, and two touchdowns -- one he caught, and one he passed.
